Windows 7 Keyboard shortcuts with Windows Logo Key.

Key combination	Action
Windows logo key	Open or close the Start menu.
Windows logo key +Pause	Display the System Properties dialog box.
Windows logo key +D	Display the desktop.
Windows logo key +M	Minimize all windows.

SMS Message stuck in Outbox – Mobile

For the last two days I have been facing a weird problem in my Sony Ericsson W580i mobile . All of sudden my messages got stuck in outbox without being delivered. I was not able to delete the messages from outbox completely and also re-sending it didn’t work. Today, luckily I found a 100% working solution on http://forums.techarena.in, which I want to share with you people.

1) Go to your outbox and cancel sending the message. It should have an X on it or something.

2) Take out your battery without turning it off first.

3) Remove your SIM card and put your battery back in.

4) Boot your phone back up without the SIM card.

5) After it boots all the way up, remove the battery again without turning your phone off.

6) Put your SIM card and battery back in and turn your phone back on.

7) Go to your outbox and delete your canceled message(dont try sending it again).

You should now be able to send messages again.

Automatically elevating UAC in Windows 7 joined in a Domain Account

Until I’m connected to my workplace domain network everything worked fine for me in Windows 7 with Admin user. I faced no problem in running Visual studio and executing batch files. For the things which I want to run/open/execute with Administrator privilege I was able to permanently set it through “Run this program as an Administrator” privilege level in the “Properties” dialog. But once joined into the domain account, this option gets disabled.

For the past 10 days I was annoyed on clicking the “Yes” button on Windows 7′s UAC whenever I open Visual Studio. The simpler solution for this is to disable the UAC but that does not solve the problem since after that Visual Studio will be running in normal mode which is a restricted one and not in the Admin mode, which gives the full control from virtual directory creation, IIS configuration etc.

For those who are using Windows 7 in the development environment connected with a Domain Account, here is a handy tip to overcome the UAC annoyance.”You must be an administrative user to perform the following steps”

Step 1: Click start Button and type gpedit.msc on the search box.

Step 2: In the Group Policy Editor window navigate to Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Security Options.

Step 3: Configure the following setting.

User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode – Set its value to Elevate without prompting.

User Account Control: Detect application installations and prompt for elevation – Set its value to Disabled.

User Account Control: Only elevate UIAccess applications that are installed in secure locations – Set its value to Disabled.

User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode – Set its value to Disabled.

Group Policy Editor

Step 4: Restart the computer. That’s it you are done.

Windows SharePoint Services and crawling .MSG-files

Out of the box, SharePoint Services 3.0 cannot crawl MSG-files (saved Outlook-Mails). There are several commercial IFilters, but with a little configuration, you can use the IFilter from the Windows Desktop Search.

1. Install Windows Desktop Search

At first, you have to install Windows Desktop Search on your SharePoint Server. You can find Windows Desktop Search in the Microsoft download area. For the Windows Desktop Search we will get an IFilter for MSG-files from Microsoft.

2. Install MSG-IFilter

Microsoft delivers an IFilter for MSG-files. You can find it in the download area on the Microsoft homepage. You have to download and install this package.

3. Changes in the registry

The file extension and the IFilter have to be registered for the SharePoint Search. We need the following entries in the registry:

4. Restart SharePoint Services Search

To activate the changes in the registry, we need to restart the WSS search service. Open a command window and run

NET STOP SPSEARCH
NET START SPSEARCH

5. Start a full crawl

To crawl already existing MSG-files, a full crawl is needed. Open a command window and run

STSADM -o spsearch -action fullcrawlstop

STSADM -o spsearch -action fullcrawlstart

6. Deactivate Windows Search (optional)
Now, you may deactivate Windows Desktop Search. We just needed this component to install the IFilter. You can deactivate this service via Administrative Tools > Services.

Remote Desktop Shortcuts

Remote Desktop has some really handy shortcuts that are documented right there in the help file:

Shortcut key	Description
ALT+PAGE UP	Switches between programs from left to right.
ALT+PAGE DOWN	Switches between programs from right to left.
ALT+INSERT	Cycles through the programs in the order they were started.
ALT+HOME	Displays the Start menu.
CTRL+ALT+BREAK	Switches the client between a window and full screen.
CTRL+ALT+END	Brings up the Windows Security dialog box.
ALT+DELETE	Displays the Windows menu.
CTRL+ALT+Minus (-) symbol on the numeric keypad	Places a snapshot of the active window, within the client, on the Terminal server clipboard (provides the same functionality as pressing PrintScrn on a local computer.)
CTRL+ALT+Plus (+) symbol on the numeric keypad	Places a snapshot of the entire client window area on the Terminal server clipboard (provides the same functionality as pressing ALT+PrintScrn on a local computer.)
